WW1 Monotypes
WWI
These monotypes were made in 2008 for the film Flying Angels about the roof angels found carved on the roof beams of East Anglian churches. The film was a collaboration with the composer Simon Rowland-Jones and film makers Phil Maxwell and Hazan Hashim, and visual artist Alice Sielle, and was first shown at the 2008 North Norfolk Music Festival in South Creake Church.
These monotype portraits of WWI soldiers were made from photographs in South Creake Church of the young men from the village whom had gone to fight in the war. The photos were all foxed which suggested the splattered blood on their faces.
